Many Stars

Each year, for the last 42 at least, the Building Industry Association of the Bay Area (BIA BAY Area) celebrates their members with the Annual Excellence in Home Building Awards. BIA BAY Area is a non-profit association that advocates for an adequate supply of quality homes for people of all income levels. Each year their event has a unique theme, encompassing printed collateral, digital displays, signage, and social media for which various agencies bid to design. It is a great public relations opportunity for the selected agency.

The Big Night

For 2019, they chose Shine Bright and were looking to emphasize the starry element of their award trophies (the Oscar-type figure holds a star aloft in victory) with a healthy dash of golden sparkle to reinforce the fabulous interior of the event location, San Francisco’s Gilded Age Palace Hotel. Due to the popularity of Netflix’s The Crown, a royal angle was considered briefly. Royal? Palace? Get it? In the end, my star-cluster-as-glittering-backdrop idea won them over because it was a glitzy, yet unexpected take on the cartoon illustrated star symbol. Additionally, it emphasized that on that evening, the stars of homebuilding would all have their time to shine.

From pop-ups to programs to projections, the theme was a big success with the members of the BIA Bay Area. It didn’t hurt to see my team win their own award either.
